Other Activities
This is the Activities Page where we can propose a number of events other than walking. If you want to be on the mailing list please let Harry know on activities@rosswalkinggroup.co.uk
Here are some possible events for 2012:

Canoeing. Following this year's fun event I propose to repeat the format again next year. For those that didn't do it this summer we parked at Wilton and picked up our canoes and completed a safety briefing before launching onto the Wye around mid morning. We paddled as far as Lydbrook where we stopped for a picnic lunch. After lunch we continued on to Symond's Yat where the canoe company picked up us and our canoes for transport back to Ross. Cost for the day is £15 per person. Now booked for Monday 30th April - please get your payments to Harry to confirm your place.

Cycling. A couple of possibilities here. We could repeat this year's 12-mile cycle around the family cycle track in the Forest stopping for lunch at a pub. This would be ideal for novices and those with limited energy. Bike hire from the cycle centre in the Forest is about £16 a day. Now booked for Wednesday 21st March.
A couple of members have expressed interest in cycling the Taff Trail. This is a 55-mile cycle track from Brecon to Cardiff. It could be done over 2 or 3 days staying at hostels or B&Bs in Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypridd. This would only be suitable for more experience cyclists. Suggested dates: 8th & 9th May

Offshore Sailing. From my Service contacts I have access to a couple of offshore sailing boats for charter at very reasonable rates. The yachts are 35-foot, 8-berth and fully equipped with safety equipment and wet weather clothing. A good friend of mine and I would be the skipper and mate with the rest of the crew either learning to sail or simply enjoying the trip. We would sail out of either Portsmouth or Plymouth. No special equipment or previous experience would be necessary.
Although they are 8-berth boats we find them more comfortable if we keep the crew size to 6 (ie skipper, mate and two couples). Breakfast and lunch would be on board, we normally go to a pub for the evening meal. Planned dates: 23rd to 26th May
For 4 days and nights on board the cost of charter, food (breakfast & lunch), fuel and mooring fees works out at around £250 per person.
Other Suggestions. I am aware that there are members of our Group who do rowing, orienteering, bird watching and many other things. If anyone wants to propose another activity I am happy to put it on the website and co ordinate.
Eligibility. In addtion to members of our Group I am happy for family members to take part as well if they wish.
Please let me know if you are interested in any of the above activities - Harry BA
